Aanvi Kamdar, a travel influencer, tragically passed away after falling into a 300-foot gorge near a waterfall in Maharashtra.
Kamdar had embarked on an outing to the waterfall on July 16 with a group of seven friends. During the trip, she slipped and fell into a 300-foot gorge while shooting a video, according to a Mangaon police station official.
Mumbai-based travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, 27, tragically died after falling into a gorge while filming an Instagram Reel at the famous Kumbhe Waterfall in Maharashtra's Raigad district. Known on Instagram as @theglocaljournal, Kamdar was a chartered accountant who documented her travels to a large following.
The incident prompted her friends to alert local authorities, who quickly mobilised a rescue operation. In addition to the rescue team, support was provided by the Coast Guard, Kolad rescue team, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff.
"As soon as we reached the spot, we realised that the girl had fallen nearly 300-350 feet. Even after reaching her, it was difficult to get her up, as she was injured and it was raining heavily. So we decided to get her out using a vertical pulley," a rescuer told NDTV.
The rescue was further complicated by large stones falling down the gorge, according to another person involved in the operation who spoke to Lokmat. Despite these challenges, Kamdar was pulled out of the crevice after a six-hour effort. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries at the Mangaon taluka government hospital shortly after being rescued.
Authorities have since issued an appeal urging tourists to exercise extreme caution while visiting waterfalls, particularly during the monsoon season. This tragic incident underscores the potential dangers of seeking the perfect shot and highlights the importance of prioritising safety over social media content
